The Perfect 3-Day Santorini Itinerary (By Local Guides)
Three days is the sweet spot for a first visit to Santorini: enough time for the icons, the sea and the wine, without ever feeling rushed. Here is the itinerary we recommend to our own guests.
Day 1 – The icons, done properly
Start with the classics before the day-trippers arrive: Oia in the morning light, then the caldera-edge villages of Imerovigli and Firostefani, lunch with a view in Pyrgos, and the ancient site of Akrotiri in the afternoon. A private tour with a local driver covers all of this in 5-6 relaxed hours and adapts to your pace – finish with sunset from a quiet spot only locals know.
Day 2 – Out on the water
You have not seen Santorini until you have seen it from the sea. Spend day two on a catamaran cruise around the caldera: swim at the hot springs, snorkel beneath the Red Beach cliffs, and enjoy a barbecue on board as the cliffs glow in the afternoon sun.
Day 3 – Wine, villages and farewell
Devote your last day to the island’s quieter soul: the volcanic vineyards. A private wine tour visits wineries growing Assyrtiko in basket-shaped kouloura vines, paired with villages like Megalochori and Emporio. If you are celebrating something special, swap the afternoon for a helicopter flight over the caldera – or hop to a neighbouring island entirely.
Practical tips
Book tours and dinners with sunset views ahead in July-August. Mornings beat afternoons for photography and crowds everywhere. And if your time is shorter, see our guide on how many days you need in Santorini – even one well-planned day can be spectacular.
