Oia: the postcard

Oia is the village from the photographs: blue domes, white windmills, and the sunset that draws crowds every single evening. It is quieter, more romantic and more expensive, with boutique cave hotels and fine dining. If this is a honeymoon or a once-in-a-lifetime trip and the budget allows, Oia delivers the Santorini of your imagination — just be prepared to share the sunset with a few hundred admirers.

The local secret: you do not have to choose

Santorini is small. Oia and Fira are 20 minutes apart by car, and some of the island’s best moments happen in neither — the vineyards around Pyrgos, the lighthouse at Akrotiri, sunset from the water on a catamaran. Stay wherever suits your budget and style, then explore everything else with ease.
